Protestors leave airport parking lot peacefully

After an 11-day occupation, the El Zapote farm collective has ceded control of the main parking garage of Guadalajara International Airport back to airport authorities.

The ejidatorios peacefully vacated the lot after state police warned them they would be forcibly removed Wednesday.

Members of the collective have been demanding what they see as proper restitution for expropriated lands since the mid-1970s, when construction on the airport was begun.

A spokesperson for the aggrieved farmers said the protests will continue and didn’t rule out further disruption at the city airport.
