In order to minimize the amount of heavy-load semi trucks circulating in the Guadalajara metro area and mucking up its traffic, the Jalisco Transportation Department (Semov) plans to limit these vehicles’ use of Avenida Lopez Mateos, where they will be prohibited entry from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. starting February.
A Semov official said this is only the first stage of what will be a long, concerted effort to make Guadalajara’s streets free of giant, unwieldy 18-wheelers, an effort given life by widespread public disapprobation with the oversize trucks, which many blame for traffic back-ups on main arterials leading into the city.
