Del Toro master class crashes website

Hometown hero Guillermo Del Toro’s Oscar triumph on Sunday (where he scooped up Best Director and Best Picture trophies) was celebrated in typically exuberant Tapatio style near the city’s famed arches (Los Arcos) on Avenida Vallarta, where revelers toted a giant facsimile of Oscar himself, along with a cardboard caricature of the bespectacled cineaste.

Those who can’t stand to let the glow of by-proxy victory fade may be interested in attending a master class held by the bearded former wunderkind himself at Auditorio Telmex, Monday, March 12, 6 p.m.

The event – part of the 33rd Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG) – was rescheduled for the city’s most spacious venue after demand for his master class to be held at the smaller Conjunto de Artes Escenicas went through the roof and crashed the FICG website.   Del Toro returns home to be the guest of honor at this year’s festival, which runs March 9-16.
