Busy city center stretch closed for four weeks

With little to no warning from the city’s transportation authority, a stretch of busy 16 de Septiembre has been unceremoniously shut down for construction.

In addition to the lack of warning, little to no signage indicating the disruption has been posted, increasing, perhaps, the probability of accidents along the length of said closure.

The public work, which runs along 16 Sept from Juarez to Prisciliano Sanchez, extends by several more blocks the Paseo Fray Antonio Alcalde pedestrian walkway running northward, beneath which the Tren Ligero 3 line is also under construction.

According to witnesses, not only is there no signage explaining the closure, agents from the Department of Transportation are conspicuously absent, leaving construction workers to do the explaining in their stead.  One worker reports having already seen several near misses between cars unwittingly crossing 16 Sept and blissfully unaware pedestrians.

During the closure, which agents for the Department of Transportation say will last four weeks, buses will use alternate routes.  Expect a significant traffic-snarling butterfly effect in the city center for the duration.
