American Society enters busy period

A non-denominational observance of the National Day of Prayer in the United States will be held at Guadalajara’s American Society (Amsoc) on Thursday, May 3, from 11 to 11:30 p.m.

pg6aThe group will be praying for the world, Mexico, the United States and its leaders. All are invited and welcome to join in, as guidance is sought for enlightened governance of all nations.

Also on May 3, following the weekly luncheon, the Spelling Bee Mexican Standoff final will take place, featuring the winners of the last two games: Marcia Bowers, Frank Callaway, Peter Trinh, Jeannie Wilgus, Frank Rodriguez and Cam Esser.

Local author Michael Hogan will be the guest at the next meeting of the English Book Club on Thursday, May 10, 10 a.m., talking about his acclaimed book “Abraham Lincoln and Mexico” that explores President Abraham Lincoln’s relationship with Mexico before, during and after the American Civil War.  Everyone is welcome to attend this discussion and book signing.

The Thursday, May 10 Mother’s Day luncheon, from noon, will feature a tempting platter of chicken salad with sides (60 pesos) and Italian Tiramisu for dessert (30 pesos).  An added extra will be live violin and guitar accompaniment. Best sign up at the desk or call (33) 3121-2395 to reserve seats because latecomers risk not being served.  There will be a 50/50 raffle.
