City sizzles as mercury rises

Not satisfied with the high temperatures of the last couple of weeks, which have been hot enough to make people’s sweat itself perspire, Guadalajara’s weather gods decided to crank up the thermostat to 38 degrees Celsius – in the shade no less.

The spike is part of a heat wave that hit much of the country this week.

But before you start feeling sorry for yourself, take into account the temperatures suffered in the last few days by other regions of the country.  The states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Guerrero, Nayarit and Oaxaca experienced highs of 50 degrees.  That’s 122 degrees Fahrenheit for state-siders.

But meteorologists at the  University of Guadalajara have some good news: temperatures will start to drop Saturday or Sunday, they predict.
