Bus fire victim operated on at US hospital

Following over three weeks of hospitalization here in Guadalajara, a woman severely burned in a bus fire set by cartel members in the wake of the attempted assassination of a former Jalisco attorney general is finally undergoing surgery in the hospital of the University of Texas in Galveston, Texas.

“The prognosis [for Elizabeth] is very encouraging,” said Alfonso Petersen Farah, the state’s secretary of health.  “She is in stable condition, and has undergone surgery in Galveston.  She’s conscious and happy to be there.”

Elizabeth was mother to eight-month-old Tadeo, who tragically died in the bus fire.
