Slow times ahead for periférico users

Resurfacing work will begin Sunday, July 2, on a 6.5-kilometer section of the southern Guadalajara Periférico (beltway), running between the Chapala highway turnoff and Avenida Ocho de Julio.

This is one of the Periférico’s most transited sections and the work is expected to continue through mid-November.

Work will start first on the east-to-west lanes of the road, which will be closed to traffic as of Sunday. Traffic will be redirected on to the other side of the Periférico, where two lanes in either direction will operate. Once this part of the project has been completed, the work will shift to the west-to-east lanes.  Traffic flow will be reduced, the state Transportation Department (Semov) says, and tailbacks at peak times should be expected.

Around 120,000 vehicles use the Periférico each day, according to Semov figures.
