20 corpses discovered at 2 homes

The bloodletting in Guadalajara is showing no sign of abating any time soon.

pg2bPolice last Friday unearthed ten bodies – nine men and one woman – buried in the yard of a house in Guadalajara’s Colonia Santa Elena de la Cruz, in the northeast of the city near the Jalisco Stadium.

The landlord and owner of the house alerted police after a gardener told him of fetid odors coming from the yard. The property was to be fixed up and put on the market after the last tenants had left, the owner said.

Authorities revealed that the corpses were in different stages of decomposition. At press time, the only full autopsy carried out by authorities had been on the woman, who apparently died from asphyxiation between two and four months ago. Other reports suggested some of the men had also been strangled.

Police are searching for the last tenants of the house, a couple, who have disappeared.

On Monday, police were called to an abandoned  house in the Tlajomulco subdivision of Villa Fontana, after blood had been spotted in the driveway. Officers discovered three bodies dumped in one of the bedrooms. When forensic experts were summoned, four more corpses were dug up in the garden.

That wasn’t all. A further three bodies were later exhumed from the yard, making a total of ten – 20 from the two finds.

Commenting Wednesday, Jalisco Governor Aristoteles Sandoval speculated that the deceased were victims of a “low intensity” war between criminal organizations.
