American School acclaimed for philanthropic efforts

The American School of Guadalajara has been presented with a special award from the Organismo de Nutrición Infantil (ONI), a respected non-profit that has dedicated itself to improving the diets of thousands of children in Jalisco for the past 64 years.

The school received the institution’s “galardón al niño ONI” for its assistance over the past five years.

Each year in March, students create artistic ceramic bowls that are filled with soup and bread donated by local restaurants.  For a minimum donation, participants enjoy the soup and then take their bowls home with them.  A silent auction featuring bowls made by local professional artists also helps raise additional funds for ONI.

The “galardón al niño ONI” prize was made by local artist Rodo Padilla and features a boy and a girl holding a watermelon.
