The repeated flooding caused by the recent rainy spell will have irritated many Guadalajara drivers but there is one upshot from the heavenly deluges.
Contamination in the metropolitan area has dropped significantly in the past two months, with not a single day of “poor quality” air registered on the Semadet (environmental agency) monitoring network.
Up until the start of the rainy season, 2018 looked on course to be the worst year on record for air pollution. That could still be the case, however, since 51 “episodes” of “bad quality” have been recorded through September 6, compared with 34 in 2017.
The humidity and precipitation is set to continue through the rest of this month and October, and could even extend into the first week of November, according to staff at the city’s Institute of Meteorology.
