Foreign-owned gas stations charging higher prices

Recent reforms to Mexico’s energy sector have seen the arrival of foreign oil companies looking for a foothold in Mexico’s gas station market.

Their presence here, however, has yet to translate into lower prices at the pumps. The price of regular gas (equivalent to magna) slid over 20 pesos a liter at BP stations in Guadalajara this week and Shell wasn’t far behind.

Pemex is offering more competitive prices; Magna gas at the franchise near the corner of Lapizlazuli and Topacio, near Plaza del Sol, was selling for 19.76 pesos a liter.  Both BP as Shell put additives in their regular gas, for improved engine performance.
