A group of Mexican students won a silver medal, three bronze medals and two honorable mentions at the International Mathematics Olympiad held recently in London.
They might not have even been there, however, had it not been for Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Guadalajara native Del Toro offered to pay for the airfares of the 12 students after he learned that Conacyt (Mexico’s Science and Technology Council) were pulling their funding from the team.
