Neighbor dies as carjackers drive off with kids

A Good Samaritan who intervened in a carjacking involving his neighbor was shot to death in Colonia Jardines de los Belenes in Zapopan last week.

It was 7 a.m. when the victim was getting ready to leave his house, strapping his twin daughters, age one year and eight months, into their car seats in the rear of his Rodeo SUV.

Moments later, two armed men approached the car and ordered him to get out of the vehicle. When he resisted, one the assailants shot him in the head.

On hearing the shot, the owner of a grocery store located directly facing the house ran over to try and help. As one assailant dragged the driver out of the vehicle, the other confronted the interlocutor, firing a single shot and fatally wounding him in the head.

The thugs drove off in the Rodeo but soon abandoned the vehicle near the Periférico in Colonia Lomas del Río Verde. Police located it within 20 minutes and found the two infants unharmed.

Meanwhile, the father of the girls was rushed to hospital to undergo emergency surgery. He is expected to recover. The good samaritan, unfortunately, died at the scene of the crime.
