The municipal governments of both Zapopan and Guadalajara are kicking in with e-scooter ride-share trial periods.
Zapopan was first off the mark with this environmentally friendly means of transportation. Four companies – Frog, Green, Movo and Bird – started their operations last weekend, with a rollout outside the Parque Metropolitano.
The firms each have a concession to operate 250 rental scooters during a three-month trial period. They can only be ridden in a designated area (polígono) covering 90 Zapopan neighborhoods (colonias), connecting popular areas such as Chapalita, Ciudad del Sol, La Estancia, Arcos de Guadalupe, Ciudad Granja, Camino Real and the zone surrounding the Parque Metropolitano.
The GPS-equipped scooters can be rented through apps acting in the same way as bike-share programs. Riders pick them up, pay by the minute, then drop them off at their destination.
