Big names draw big crowds at Book Fair

Invitee India may have brought many of its most fêted writers to the Guadalajara International Book Fair this week but the big audience draw turned out to be a comic book illustrator, writer, penciller, novelist, screenwriter and film director from north of the border.

pg1dFrank Miller, considered one of the most talented comic book authors of all time, probably could have filled the main hall of the FIL several times over for his 50-minute talk on Wednesday. Young men and women proudly showed off their Batman t-shirts as they waited for the 62-year-old author of “The Dark Knight Returns,” “Sin City,” “300” and many other top comic titles to give his presentation.

Other popular speakers were Arun Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, who reflected on how peace can be achieved in today’s world, and Elena Poniatowski, the famed Mexican writer who presented a new work based on her fascinating family history and its roots in the Polish nobility.
