Tec de Monterrey develops quick test

Researchers at the Tec de Monterrey campus in  Guadalajara have developed a rapid Covid-19 test that they say will be ready for widespread use by the beginning of August.

Led by professors from the university’s Science and Engineering department, the project has received funding from the federal Department of Innovation, Science and Technology (SICyRT). The test, say its developers, will provide a result in less than an hour while reducing costs by 50 percent.

Diego Navarro, one of the project’s leaders, told reporters that the test could be most useful in rural and isolated communities, where the logistics of current Covid-19 testing methods are the most complicated.
