Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP) plans to invest US$504 million over five years in the development of the Guadalajara International Airport, the largest of the 12 it administers in Mexico.

Their ambitious plan includes an additional runway and second terminal building, as well as a new US$302 million redesign of the commercial space in the existing building.

This week, GAP released its designs for this new space, which will be opened on a phased basis over the next two years, before being fully open in 2023.

GAP notes that the current terminal has undergone numerous expansion projects since its opening in 1966 and “today is a collection of airside zones, complex circulation patterns and architectural styles.”

The aim of the new design will be “to make passenger flows rational, creating a series of engaging touchpoints along the passenger journey, from security to gate, with a visionary design that unifies the entire experience,” GAP says.
