Governor says spying widespread in predecessor’s administration

In December, 2014, the government of Jalisco acquired surveillance software with the aim of combating kidnapping and organized crime, but the system was actually used for political espionage, Jalisco Governor Enrique Alfaro alleged this week.

for no 5The Galileo Remote Control System was purchased through the HackingTeam, an Italian information technology company that distributes intrusion and surveillance capabilities to governments, law enforcement agencies and corporations.

The system sold to the Jalisco government allowed it to monitor the communications of internet users, decipher their encrypted files and emails, record Skype and other communications, and remotely activate microphones and cameras on target computers.
