Mariachis go marching on

The Mariachis de Guadalajara maintained their challenge for an historic title in their debut season in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), downing the Rieleros de Aguasclientes in game six of their divisional semi-final series.

With the win, the local team advances to the Northern Division championship series, which starts Friday.

In a game that saw an hour-long rain delay, the Mariachis raced to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back, securing the triumph thanks to Luis Sardiñas’ two-run homer in the eighth.

The Mariachis have home advantage in the opening two games of the the best-of-seven Northern Division final against the Toros de Tijuana, Friday, August 27 and Saturday, August 28, 7:15 p.m. at the Pan-American Stadium in Zapopan. Tickets are available at boletomovil.com, or the stadium box office.

Should the series extend to games six and seven, these will be played at the Pan-American Stadium on Friday and Saturday, September 3 and 4, both starting at 7:15 p.m.

In the LMB Southern Division Final, the Mexico City Diablos Rojos will play the Leones de Yucatán.

The LMB Championship series, known as the La Serie del Rey, is from September 6 to 14.
