A Guadalajara teen who suffered severe burns in an accident at a church involving fireworks has been airlifted to a specialist hospital in Galveston, Texas, thanks to the intervention of a Mexican charitable institution.
Doctors said the 15-year-old boy received burns to 38 percent of his body following an explosion that occurred in the bell tower of the San Carlos Borromeo Church, located in the Analco neighborhood of Guadalajara.
The blast occurred as the church’s 20-year-old sexton, along with three adolescent helpers, prepared to set off some fireworks for a parish religious festivity. All four were injured in the explosion.
