Swanky, relocated department store to rise from Kodak’s ashes

The Liverpool department store in Guadalajara’s Plaza del Sol (formerly Fabricas de Francia) has closed its doors, although a new incarnation of this branch of the upmarket retail outlet is set to open September 28 about a mile away in the sparkling new Distrito La Perla shopping complex, located on Avenida Mariano Otero on the former site of the Kodak plant.

pg5Liverpool is Mexico’s oldest department store chain, founded in Mexico City in 1872 by a French importer who adopted the name because much of his merchandize originated from the English port.

Fabricas de Francia was the founding anchor store of Plaza del Sol, Guadalajara’s first shopping mall, which opened in 1969.  As of three years ago, all Fabricas de Francia outlets in Mexico were rebranded under the Liverpool name.
