Guadalajara set as venue for Democrats Abroad convention

The Mexico chapter of Democrats Abroad (DA-Mexico) has selected Guadalajara as host city for its 2022 Annual General Meeting, to be held March 11 through 13. It will be the organization’s first in-person conference since 2019.

The convention will be headquartered at Hilton Guadalajara Midtown, a five-star hotel located near the upscale Colonia Providencia mall.

The schedule opens Friday, March 11, 6 p.m., with a cocktail reception to welcome and connect fellow Democrats from all over Mexico. Activities for Saturday, March 12, begin with a 9:30 a.m. opening ceremony, followed by organizational sessions throughout the day. The DA-Mexico business meeting is slated for Sunday, March 13, 9:30 a.m., concluding with encouraging words by special guest speaker Candice Kerestan, Democrats Abroad International Chair from Germany, as the organization aims to pump up voter participation to maintain a majority of seats in next November’s midterm elections.

Conference tickets, available exclusively to U.S. citizens, include a drink and hors d’oeuvres at the Friday reception, along with coffee service and lunch on Saturday. The Early Bird price set at 1,500 pesos is good through January 15. The cost goes up to 1,800 pesos for registration January 16 through March 10, and to 1,900 pesos as of March 11.

Although attendance at the business meeting alone is free to all Democrats Abroad members, donations to help offset venue expenses are encouraged. Hilton Midtown is offering reduced rates on accommodations for convention attendees booked by March 4. See the democratsabroad.org/mx website for details.
