Zapopan seeks foster homes for children

The Zapopan Family Development Agency (DIF) is seeking suitable families or couples who are willing to act as temporary guardians to young people who would otherwise be residing in a children’s shelter.

“We want to register, train and evaluate families in the municipality who want to take care of our children,” said Michelle Griecha, president of DIF Zapopan. Many of the children come from broken homes, where violence has often been present, she added.

Griecha said senior citizens, and even some individuals, may apply, but stressed the importance of those interested being in optimal physical and psychological condition.

Griecha said everyone interested in foster care would need to understand that the guardianship is temporary — between three months and one year — while courts determine whether the child is able to return to his/her family, or should be put up for adoption.
