Guadalajara has been named as a joint host for the postponed 11th Gay Games in 2023 alongside Hong Kong.
Although it was back in February that the Gay Games management committee made the decision to postpone this year’s event and designate Guadalajara as a co-host for the rescheduled games, the Jalisco government waited until June 28 (International LGBT + Pride Day) to make the official announcement.
The decision to suspend the 2023 games was made due to the uncertainty over international travel as a result of the Covid pandemic.
Guadalajara had bid to host the 2026 Gay Games, and was selected as one three finalists, but lost out to Valencia, Spain. The opportunity to co-host the rescheduled event in 2023 will be more than enough compensation.
