The Chapala Opera Guild is offering its current membership a free bus ride to Guadalajara to attend the MET Live performance of “The Hours,” on Saturday, December 10, courtesy of the Conjunto Santander de Artes Escénicas.
“The Hours” is an operatic take on the 1998 Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Michael Cunningham, and the 2002 film by Stephen Daldry, starring Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep.
This version of “The Hours” is adapted from both the book and the film, and sees the interplay of the three female leads — played by Renée Fleming, Kelli O’Hara and Joyce DiDonato — in various dream sequences, backed by a full orchestra, choirs and dancers.
That the opera is in English bodes well for Lakesiders who want to take the trip to Guadalajara, noted Guild President Howard Willis.
Willis said he has conversed extensively with Conjunto Coordinadora de Vinculacion Irlanda Tostado, who put together the free bus trip.
