Covid linked to early Alzheimer’s

There are many signs that Covid-19 has led to an increase in the number of people developing Alzheimer’s at an earlier age, says Rodrigo Ramos Zúñiga, the head of the Department of Neurosciences of the University Center of Health Sciences (CUCS) of the University of Guadalajara (UdeG).

“Many people began to manifest cognitive impairment after Covid-19, which suggests that having had a general or inflammatory disease can advance the age of onset of Alzheimer’s,” Ramos told reporters this week.  Ramos admitted he had no statistical evidence to back his claim, but said neuroscience specialists have identified the inflammatory reaction that the Sars-Cov2 virus causes in the brain and its determining factor on cognitive impairment.
