Prosecutor’s office shooting leaves two women dead

Tuesday, January 31, a  21-year-old woman was shot to death by her partner in the Poncitlan prosecutor’s office, just as she was about to file a complaint against him for domestic violence.

The attack, in which the woman’s 45-year-old mother also died, occurred moments after the two women entered the building to make a statement.

Reports said the man, later identified as Christopher “N”, followed the women into the Poncitlan prosecutor’s office (ministerio publico). There were no security officers on duty in the building at the time. The facility was staffed only by administrative officials, who were unable to prevent the assailant, armed with a handgun, from approaching the two women and firing off several rounds at them at point blank range.  He then fled on foot, abandoning a vehicle he had left in the middle of the street where the office is located.
