The game between Mexico’s best supported professional soccer teams is known as “El Clasico Nacional” and inflames the passions of fans the length and breadth of the country. And when the two teams meet in the playoffs, emotions are raised to boiling point.
Chivas reached the semis by defeating local rivals Atlas in the last eight. Although the aggregate score over the two legs was 1-1, the Chivas advanced by dint of their higher placed finish in the regular season league table.
