More than 10,000 people—mostly mothers and their families—gathered for a Día de las Madres (Mother’s Day) festival organized by the Jalisco and Guadalajara governments on Sunday, May 11.
Held on the Alcalde pedestrian walkway in the city center, the enthusiastic crowds of mamás enjoyed free entertainment, surprise gifts, and a festive atmosphere. Some mothers also received complimentary makeup and hairstyling services at beauty stations set up in tents along the promenade.
Guadalajara Mayor Verónica Delgadillo used the occasion to announce that her administration is developing a public policy focused on supporting women who provide unpaid care work in their homes. The goal, she said, is to better integrate their work with existing municipal services such as daycare centers, community hubs, and senior care facilities. The initiative has already been submitted to the Inter-American Development Bank for consideration.
