A South Korean influencer was subjected to a racist gesture during the opening World Cup match in Guadalajara last week at the Akron Stadium, sparking widespread outrage and prompting FIFA to invite her to Thursday’s Korea-Mexico clash.
Yoon Su-jin, known online as Ino Cat, was filming herself at the Akron Stadium during South Korea’s 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic on June 12 when a Mexican fan seated behind her pulled the corners of his eyes – a gesture widely seen as derogatory toward people of Asian descent.
Yoon, who has 6.6 million YouTube subscribers and over 2 million TikTok followers, posted the clip on Instagram with the caption: “You travel across the world for the World Cup … and experience racism.” The video drew 65,000 comments and was shared over 120,000 times.
