New import forms for boaters on the horizon

Revamped import permits for boaters entering Mexico will soon be unveiled in Mexico.

The new TIPs will be available starting in August, according to the The Log, California’s leading boating and fishing magazine.

The magazine reported that federal officials from Mexico held a seminar at the recent San Diego International Boat Show to explain the new documents.

The Log said officials “detailed 22 specific changes on the new TIP forms and explained how each improvement clarifies in English and Spanish some of the more confusing terminology.”

Last year, in a move that angered the entire foreign boating community, Mexican customs officials impounded more than 300 yachts at marinas in nine Mexican ports, mostly after noting irregularities in the way TIP forms had been filled out.

A new bilingual website is due to be launched where boaters can obtain the TIP. Meanwhile, they can obtain more information at www.sat.gob.mx/aduanas.
