DEA offers $5 million US for capture of drug capo

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has paid for billboards on California highways offering a five-million-dollar reward for information leading to the capture of infamous  Mexican drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero.

The billboards show three photographs of Caro Quintero taken art different stages of his adult life.

They have been placed on highways 5, 91 and 60 in the Los Angeles area.

Caro Quintero, who ran the Guadalajara drug cartel in the mid 1980s, was convicted of torturing and killing DEA agent Enrique Camarena in 1985. He served 28 years of a 40-year sentence before a judge released him a year ago on a technicality, much to the disgust of U.S. authorities.

He is considered a fugitive from U.S. justice and faces a series of charges in California.
