Luz del Mundo leader to stand trial

A Los Angeles judge has ordered Luz del Mundo church leader Naasón Joaquín García to stand trial after prosecutors filed 36 new charges, including sexual abuse, lewd acts against a minor and extortion, allegedly committed in Southern California between June 2015 and June 2019, the date of his arrest.

pg3Joaquín García and two co-defendants (alleged enablers) – Alondra Ocampo, 37, and Susana Medina Oaxaca, 25, – are expected to enter not guilty pleas at an arraignment hearing set for September 1.

Judge George Lomelí of the Superior Court of Los Angeles set a whopping US$90 million bond for the church leader after hearing statements from several people involved in the case, including special agent Troy Holmes, who had already presented similar testimony last year when a first accusation was made.
