AMLO urges Biden to ignore ‘conservatives’ and help migrants

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was true to his word during this week’s meeting with Joe Biden, outlining his “daring” proposals to improve the lives of Mexican migrants living and working in the United States.

He spoke in a 25-minute discourse during which his U.S. counterpart sometimes appeared to be dozing off.

However, the main takeaway from a joint statement released by the two leaders at the end of the encounter was a commitment to increase border modernization infrastructure, with the aim of making the flow of commerce and people more secure and efficient.

Mexico has committed to invest US$1.5 billion on border infrastructure between 2022 and 2024, while Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law includes US$3.4 billion to undertake 26 major construction and modernization projects at land ports of entry on the northern and southern borders.
