Ajijic stands up for an end to violence

Dozens of local youngsters took the lead as around 400 lakesiders of mixed nationalities gathered Sunday, April 22 for a candlelight peace march through the streets of Ajijic.

Those on the front line carried a banner reading: “The children of Ajijic want to grow up like their parents did, without violence. We want to build, not destroy, because we want to live in a peaceful world.”

Another sign more succinctly summed up popular wisdom on recent violence linked to the drug trade: “Don’t consume. Don’t buy. Don’t sell. End of problem.”

The silent march ended at the waterfront park where the crowd finally joined voices in collective reflection, including recitation of the renowned Prayer of St. Francis opening with the line, “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.”
