Electronic voting set for third trial run

The Jalisco Electoral Institute (IEPC) has scheduled its third trial run of electronic gear to be employed for the 2012 state and local elections in 43 designated municipalities, including Chapala, Jocotepec, Poncitlan and Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos.

The test vote will be carried out Sunday, May 6, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with 1,200 touch-screen monitors and electronic ballot boxes set up at public venues spread out in electoral districts 1 and 17.

During a prior trial run, held March 25, IEPC registered a 40-percent failure rate in the transmission of data emitted from 485 voting machines. The exercise will be repeated on May 27 and June 17 to work out all glitches prior to the July 1 vote.
