Safety measures implemented for Chapala bypass interchange

In a joint effort to reduce the dangers motorists encounter on entering and exiting the north end of the Chapala-Ajijic Libramiento, the Jalisco Traffic Department (SVT) and Chapala city hall dispatched work crews on Monday, September 3 to implement some new safety measures.

Under the supervision of Lino Guerrero, SVT director of commands outside the metro area, and lakeside area commandant Hector MagaƱa, the workmen installed a row of raised reflective markers and a series of arrow signs to guide drivers through the curving underpass where frequent crashes and a number of highway fatalities have occurred. Some applied a fresh coat of paint on the lane divisions laid out on the tarmac while others cleared summer weed growth from roadside green areas.

According to Guerrero, new improved signage for the interchange is now on order. He reports that the SVT is reviewing appropriate steps to improve safe navigation at the south end of the bypass.
