Police round-up may lead to break in May Ixtlahuacan massacre case

Jalisco authorities have detained 12 suspects tied to the La Resistencia crime syndicate who are now under investigation for possible involvement in the mass murder of 18 persons whose mutilated bodies were discovered May 9 on the outskirts of Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos.

The victims were considered to be innocent parties kidnapped at random from various lakeshore communities in the days and weeks prior to the massacre.

The round-up of five men, five women and two minors came on the heels of the arrest of La Resistencia leader Ramiro Pozos González--alias “el Molca” – captured Wednesday, September 12 in Metepec, Estado de Mexico.  The suspects were nabbed the following day by officers of Jalisco’s specialized Kidnapping Combat Unit.

The ten adults are being held under house arrest to be investigated in connection with diverse criminal activities, including at least 39 kidnapping cases and 22 homicides committed over the past nine months.
