Dieter proves it pays to be a loser

Guillermo Padilla, a member of Chapala’s Club de Toby, slipped an 1,800-peso cash prize into his pocket this week after dropping eight kilos and slightly more than four percent of body mass from his hefty frame.

The money was a reward offered to the biggest loser signed up in the new weight loss club started up last month with the aim of giving encouragement to persons who have an earnest desire to overcome morbid obesity. Membership is open to persons who hit the scales at 100 kilos and up.

Toby clubbers meet every other Monday, 4 p.m., for a weigh-in at the pharmacy department in the Soriana supermarket. Each time they kick in 100 pesos into the club kitty. The individual registering the highest rate of body mass loss over the next two weeks walks away with the proceeds.

Club Toby coordinator Anilu Alcantar helps the dieters connect with doctors and professional nutritionists who can provide expert advice in their battle against the bulk. She welcomes new members and would be delighted to hear from anyone willing to lend support as a volunteer guidance counselor, exercise program leader or sponsor for members of limited means. Contact her on Facebook or call 331-247-9262 (cel).
