Former chief takes over Chapala police

Returning to Chapala after a six-year hiatus, Ramon del Arco has been named as acting chief of the Chapala police department.

Del Arco is a career security professional who has spent three decades working in both the private and public sectors.  He was originally hired to serve as a line officer on the Chapala police force in 2004, eventually earning promotion to operative director under mayor Arturo Gutierrez.

His return appointment remains provisional, pending application and approval of the series of confidence control examinations now required by law.

Recognizing that the public security scenario at lakeside has changed radically since he left the area, the new chief says he expects to employ operational tactics that effectively respond to current circumstances. He intends to start by cleaning house, with dismissal of any officers who don’t match strict standards for service. He is also keen to work closely with citizens and develop ties to civil groups that have sprung up to address local crime and security issues.
