The sleek green vessel designed and built at the Universidad Tecnologica de la Zona Metropolitana beat a rival craft from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in both the speed and endurance tests comprising the fourth annual solar-powered boat race held on October 27 just off Lake Chapala’s shoreline.
The event is organized to promote development and application of clean energy. Academics suggest that adaptation of solar technology to operate tourist launches would greatly reduce the water and noise pollution generated by gasoline generated outboard motors.
