'Gringo' TV star tapes Lakeside tour

Robert Alexander, a retired American scientist turned television travelogue host, blew into the lakeshore area last week to tape footage for a segment of his popular Gringo en Mexico series.

Each episode of the 30-minute program features the peripatetic reporter exploring a different corner of the nation, extolling its sites of interest, colorful festivities, culinary specialties, typical crafts and other unique attributes.

Alexander’s running patter and the interviews he conducts with local folks are delivered in thickly accented Spanish, with occasional outbursts of enthusiastic expressions in English.

Since its debut in 2007, the show has gained wide viewer following around the globe. Broadcasts run on cable and satellite channels owned by entertainment giant Televisa, such as Mexico’s Unicable, Galavision in the United States and Europe, and Televisa International in South America.

The Gringo en Mexico Lake Chapala tour spanned the north shore corridor from Jocotepec to Mezcala. The airing date has not been announced.
