Notorious bandit in police crosshairs

Chapala police are on the lookout for a lone burglar believed to be the perpetrator of at least a dozen home break-ins in the upper west sector of Ajijic.

This week police chief Ramon del Arco personally visited several eye witnesses, seeking their aid to create a computer-generated portrait of the suspect.

With the use of specialized software, a preliminary facial sketch was drawn up from verbal descriptions of the man. Witnesses were asked for in-put to refine the details.

The completed sketch will be circulated among officers on patrol. “We’re not ready to put up ‘wanted’ posters. We’d rather catch the thief than scare him off,” del Arco explains.

His approximate physical characteristics are:  height, 1.85 meters, weight, 75 kilos; age, 40-45; rounded face, mustache and graying hair hanging below the ears. He may wear a baseball cap, sunglasses and backpack. There is speculation that he may be of foreign extraction and drive a silver Jeep SUV with a covered spare tire attached to the back.

Sightings of the suspect should be reported immediately to police headquarters at 765-4444 or 765-4455.
