Rotary Club to host International Women’s Golf Classic

Celebrating International Women’s Day and saluting the economic political and social achievements of women of this community and around the world, the Rotary Club of Ajijic will sponsor the 2013 International Women’s Golf Classic.

The event will be held at the Chapala Country Club in Vista del Lago on Saturday, March 9.

The “Ladies Only” classic is open to amateur golfers of all skill levels. Activities for non-players include a clinic conducted by Shanti Granada and Alejandra Martin del Campo, two of Mexico’s leading women professional golfers. Granada and Martin del Campo are members of the Federacion Mexicana de Golf and the LPGA (U.S.) and are enthusiastic about donating their time and skill to this project.

Spaces for participants are limited, so early registration is essential.  The entry fee is 1,200 pesos and includes green fees, golf cart, a beverage cart during play, a Women’s International Golf Classic shirt, and a gift bag with a souvenir cap. Check-in will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by a ‘Shot Gun” start at 12:30 p.m.  Participants from Mexico, Canada, the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, France and other countries will vie for a Mazda automobile for a “hole-in-one” on the 4th hole and an E-Z GO golf cart for a “hole-in-one” on the 8th hole. Additional prizes will be awarded for the Longest Drive, Straightest Drive and Closest to the Hole. A Weber Barbecue demonstration will be held for players and visitors at 4 p.m. 

An awards banquet open to the public will feature cocktails and a gourmet dinner, music by a local dance band, a 50/50 Raffle and award presentations for the winners and sponsors of the golf tournament.  The highlight of the evening will be a live auction featuring many items, including an exciting week’s stay for up to five people in a two-bedroom/one bath condo in the Royal Palms Hotel in Cancun, Mexico and a seven-day stay at the exotic Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta.

Prospective sponsors may also obtain information on the same website with regard to opportunities to show support for this event as well as showcase their businesses and professions and include marketing items for player’s gift bags.  

The International Women’s Golf Classic is a charity benefit and all proceeds will be designated by the Rotary Club of Ajijic to their local service projects. These include improvements at Hope House Shelter for Boys, the Love in Action Shelter for Children, Tepehua Community Center Medical Clinic and Soup Kitchen, Have Hammers…Will Travel, sponsorship of a soccer league for at-risk boys in San Juan Cosala, the Ardat hospital and school dog therapy program and the Education Scholarship Foundation for needy children.
