Taxi driver dies on Chapala highway

Taxi drivers assigned to the Guadalajara Airport have denied suggestions that they frequently drive over the speed limit on their way to and from Guadalajara and Lake Chapala.

The question was raised by reporters in the wake of an accident around dusk on Tuesday, February 28, in which a taxi driver died after crashing into the rear of a stationary pick up on the Chapala highway about a mile from the airport.  Witnesses said the taxi was traveling at between 80 and 90 kilometers an hour and that the driver failed to see the pick up, which did not have its tail lights on.
