Home burglaries abate

The Chapala police department and the Ministerio Publico (district attorney’s office) have noted a significant decline in reports of home burglaries over the past month.

According to police records, just one business and two households reported break-ins in the Ajijic area during February.

One Mexican homeowner in San Nicolas de Ibarra reported finding household furnishings, kitchen appliances, electronic equipment and personal belongings missing, but this came after an eight-year absence from the property.

Auto thefts, on the other hand, have been on a sharp rise, with eight incidents registered in the last two weeks. Most cases have involved older model trucks and vans parked in the vicinity of weekly streets markets in Chapala and Ajijic. The majority were owned by tianguis vendors.
