Chapala man perishes in fatal fall

Chapala resident Edgar Alonso Hernandez Rojas, 22, died in the early hours of Sunday, May 12, from injuries sustained when he accidentally tumbled headfirst from the second-story balcony of a popular downtown Chapala watering hole.

According to official reports on the fatal incident, Hernandez became heavily intoxicated while attending a Saturday night music event at Lacandona Bar, located across the street from Chapala city hall.

Apparently friends and personnel at the establishment had warned him not to lean against the outdoor balcony before he slipped over the edge and fell about four meters onto the sidewalk below.

He was rushed to a private hospital in Guadalajara for emergency attention, where he succumbed a short time later to severe skull and internal injuries.
