Intro to Jalisco justice system in the works

Prospects for a presentation to introduce lakeside expats to Jalisco’s criminal justice system was a positive outcome of the October 11 public audience held at Chapala city hall under the auspices of the state Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

The event was part of a new bi-monthly FGE program that allows individual citizens to sit down for one-on-one consultations with officials from different departments operating under the agency’s wing.

Low attendance at the Chapala session was attributed to last-minute and poorly explained advance publicity. Only two of the 15 interview requests filed at the registration desk involved expat residents.

However, a conversation between Lake Chapala Society executive director Terry Vidal and Salvador Gonzalez de los Santos, regional supervisor of state prosecutor’s offices, spawned plans for  special FGE conference for foreigners tentatively scheduled for mid-November.
