Ajijic cuts loose with zombies, jack-o-lanterns

The Ajijic plaza was a site of frenzied activity Saturday, October 26 as hundreds of folks congregated for a Halloween season blowout featuring the third annual lakeside Thrill the World performance, complemented for the first time by the pumpkin carving contest sponsored by Diane Pearl Colecciones.

More than 100 natives and expats did themselves up in whacky zombie costumes and ghoulish make-up for a double performance of the Michael Jackson dance hit “Thriller.”

Dancers lined up in front of the Rosario chapel rose from the ground at 4 p.m. on the dot, writhing, lunging and hissing in perfect form before a huge crowd of spectators. The zombies then paraded to Seis Esquinas at the west end of town for a repeat performance, finally trekking back to the plaza to party on into the evening.

Meanwhile, scores of kids and adults worked artistic magic on pumpkins of various sizes, shapes and colors, using cutting tools, paint brushes, markers and other tools to design all kinds of spooky faces.
